James Webb Space Telescope : a revolution twenty years in the making

The long wait for the James Webb Space Telescope will soon be over and Cycle 1 science gives us a peak to some of the extraordinary science developments that will be possible already in the first year of JWST operations. I will start out by providing an overview of the Cycle 1 program selection. For each of the four JWST science themes I will highlight approved program types and some of their expected outcomes. Finally, I will describe how public data will enable Cycle 2 proposals informed by the actual on-orbit capabilities of the telescope.
