AGN outflows probed by spectral-timing techniques

Spectral-timing techniques have proven valuable in studying the interplay between the X-ray corona and the accretion disc in variable active galactic nuclei (AGNs). These systems often contain outflows of ionized gas, revealed through absorption features in the X-ray spectra. Such signatures of the outflows can also show characteristic timing behaviour, set by the physical conditions of the gas. We present how the spectral-timing analysis applied to observations of current and future instruments can provide valuable constraints on the AGN outflow properties.
